Here’s why I love the Melissa and Doug Folding Princess Castle

by Michael Hutchinson

Do your children go crazy for princesses like mine do? I’ve always known that young women love princesses and dollhouses. Believe me, my kids are no different.

By combining a doll house and the theme of princesses, Melissa and Doug have scored big with their folding princess castle. What a great combination.

When I found the Melissa and Doug Folding Princess Castle in the store, I said, uh oh – if I don’t buy this, I’ll be in trouble. Not that it matters that we have several of Melissa and Doug’s toys at the house, you know, blocks, puzzles, and the like. Good thing that the quality has always been high and we haven’t had problems with these toys.

Most of Melissa and Doug’s folding princess castle is colored pink with a bit of gold. Besides looking professional and elegant, I think it’s a very nice touch. It’s high quality, as are many of the Melissa & Doug toys. Don’t wait to buy this gift – your little princess will adore it. When you observe how well-made and aesthetically pleasing it is, its large size, and how your kids’ castle will be similar to the best of any boy’s knight castle, you’ll find your money well spent.

Don’t worry about setting this thing up, because it’s a breeze. There’s almost nothing to put together. The name says it all. It’s a folding princess castle, so just take it out of the box, unfold the thing, and you’re ready to rock and roll. Of course part of the fun is deciding where to have the turrets and towers, and whether to keep it closed or open.

It folds easily for storage and at only 16 lbs, highly portable. There’s even a working drawbridge! Your little princess will have hours of fun dreaming up queen-sized royal adventures!

No surprises that the princess castle is pink, (most little girls’ favorite color).

Another great detail is the flag. The folding princess castle uses a magnet to hold it in place, which makes it easy to remove, and also makes it difficult to be snapped off or broken. Because of the flag’s small size, however, it can be easily lost. A creative idea that comes to mind is to have your kids act out a capture the flag story. If you lose the flag, be prepared to search long and hard like I’ve had to!

The folding princess castle is not only portable, you can move around a lot of the parts, including the towers, turrets, dungeon, etc.. You’ve got balconies that can hold multiple figurines, a big courtyard, a magnetic flag, a drawbridge that raises and lowers, you got it all. I think some of the staircases move, too.

My daughter was thrilled, I’m happy, my wife is happy. Thank You Melissa and Doug for the Melissa and Doug princess castle – what a great gift for Christmas 2008.
